The rotary extraction tower is an effective separation equipment that has wide applications in fields such as fine chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and environmental pollution treatment.

Details of rotary extraction tower

The rotary extraction tower is a mechanically stirred tower type extraction equipment, which consists of three parts: the upper clarification section, the mixing section, and the lower clarification section. The mixing section is in a cylindrical shape, and the interior is divided into a series of extraction chambers by static ring baffles. The middle of the two static ring baffles is a fixed rotating disk, which rotates with the stirring shaft. During operation, the heavy phase (organic phase) and light phase (organic phase) enter the tower from the top and bottom respectively, and form countercurrent contact inside the tower. Under the stirring of a fixed rotary disk, the dispersed phase forms liquid droplets, increasing the mass transfer volume. After the extraction process is completed, the light and heavy phases flow out from the top and bottom of the tower, respectively.

In a rotary extraction tower, there are multiple discs of the same size and spacing connected by rotating shafts in the middle, called rotary discs, which rotate uniformly with the rotation of the shafts. The rotating disk is separated by circular disks of the same size and spacing fixed on the tower wall, and is called a fixed disk. A solution (with a lower density) continuously enters the tower from the lower part, flows towards the upper part due to buoyancy, is broken and dispersed into droplets by the centrifugal action of the continuous rotating rotary disk ,and another solvent (with a higher density) continuously enters the tower from the upper part, flows downwards under gravity, and fills the entire tower. The dispersed droplets are dispersed in the continuous solution, and come into contact with the solvent through the droplets, One or more components in the solution are selectively dissolved in a continuous solvent for mass transfer.

The number of rotating disk , spacing, and other structures of the Rotary Extraction Tower are calculated based on factors such as raw material specifications, required separation degree, and purity.

The rotary extraction tower is composed of a vertical cylinder with a horizontal stationary ring baffle. The static ring baffle is a flat plate with a central opening, and the static ring baffle divides the cylinder into a row of extraction chambers. There is a moving ring in the center of the extraction chamber, with a diameter slightly smaller than the opening diameter of the static ring baffle. A row of moving rings are installed parallel to the rotating shaft, so that the moving ring and shaft can be conveniently installed in the Rotary Extraction tower. The mixing section is between the two flanges in the middle, where the liquid liquid mass transfer process is mainly completed. The middle upper flange to the top plate section is the upper separation section, used to clarify the light liquid; The middle lower flange to bottom flange section is a lower separation section used to clarify heavy liquid. A large pore sieve plate is installed above and below the mixing section. The heavy phase enters the tower from below the sieve plate, while the light phase enters the tower from above the sieve plate. The function of the sieve plate is to reduce liquid agitation and enhance the phase separation effect of the clarification section.

Like other tower extraction equipment, during operation, the light and heavy phases enter the Rotary Extraction Tower from the lower and upper parts of the tower, respectively. The two phases in the tower come into countercurrent contact, and under the action of the rotary disk, the dispersed phase forms small liquid droplets, increasing the mass transfer area between the two liquids. The light and heavy phases that complete the extraction process then flow out from the light liquid outlet and the heavy liquid outlet, respectively.
